I am, of course, quoting Doctor Faustus, and it is not at all a comment on the current situation.

I'm unsure of what the most vexing part of this whole situation is, the fact that I am sorely tempted to climb into a blast freezer, or the fact that my roommate half the base has been forced to resort to partial nudity to cope with the situation.

When Mephistopheles said "Why this is hell", perhaps he meant having his unfortunate distractions tabulated into graphs by a vexatious colleague.

There is nothing for it. I will have to stop writing during the time I spend at the lab and focus instead on studying the specimens we have.

But at the same time I can't deny that Sanada's presence has - thanks to this specific form of madness that afflicts me thus - inadvertently assisted in some of my most inspired prose, and removing myself from it entirely would only be detrimental to my writing.

I cannot call upon Yanagi to make Inui disappear, alas.

Presently, two solutions present themselves: first, to send myself to the Crawler's nest as part of my research and thereby spend time alone with my own deep sense of mortification. Second, I should perhaps, as they say in crasser tongues, get laid.

Addendum: Perhaps Yanagi can make Kenya disappear.

I should, somewhat belatedly but with no less gratitude, thank the expedition team for bringing our labs Crawler samples, disgusting though they are. I am confident that we are getting closer to understanding how each trophic level functions in the desert ecosystem.

In less official news, I recently find myself revisiting Earth poetry from the long past, and find myself charmed by how Wordsworth speaks of sleep as an unwilling loved one:

"O gentle Creature! do not use me so,
But once and deeply let me be beguiled"

There really is something to be said for the Romantics.

How is my favourite Yomi resident doing today?
oshitari_yuushi: (I am amused)
The base is certainly buzzing with activity, isn't it? I have, unfortunately, not been able to make the acquaintance of many of our newest residents as our lab is studying several new samples of lifeforms, but I hope to remedy that soon.

I'd be glad to hold forth on what these are to anyone who is curious, but present I'm most intrigued by Byodoin's immense blob, although Sanada's tentacle is also quite fascinating.

While unsure of how the journey itself will go, I'm somewhat looking forward to the expedition to the planet's ocean. Once a viable route is found, perhaps we can dive below the surface on further trips.

Speaking of below the surface, the lab is running tragically low on fresh sandworm samples. If either team comes across a recently deceased member of the species, we'd be grateful if you managed to collect a sizeable amount.
